Demonstration with Andrew Bonneau

In this video, Australian realist painter, Andrew Bonneau demonstrates drawing a plaster cast study on toned paper, directly from life. A description of Andrew’s method of drawing is covered, including the benefits of working on toned paper, identifying the parameters of the cast on the substrate via comparative measurement, establishing an envelope to capture the essence of the basic shape and form of the cast, articulating the block-in and locating the terminator to subdivide light and dark on the cast. This is followed by demonstrating how to delineate the shadow shapes, rendering mid-tones and finally, heightening the cast’s form with white charcoal.
